The client remembered visiting her aunt as a child and sliding down the railing of her staircase. This home has been in the family for two generations in Nevada City. We updated a few spaces in the home while staying true to its Victorian flavor. A large skylight was added above the staircase, framing a view of a beautiful old tree and sky. I commissioned a mural painter, Rebecca Caro, to paint a few of the tree’s branches into the well of the skylight. In the entry, we used two wallpapers — one on the ceiling, one around the entry door — and added a few gold touches to the beautiful woodwork.
